The INFORMS Data Mining Society (DMS) is a vibrant and interdisciplinary community within the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS). It brings together researchers, practitioners, and educators from diverse fields, including industrial engineering, statistics, computer science, business, and related disciplines, spanning academic institutions, industry, and government organizations across the globe.
DMS is dedicated to advancing the theory, methodology, and practice of data mining, machine learning, and knowledge discovery. Its mission is to promote the development and dissemination of innovative research, foster the translation of data-driven methods into real-world applications, and encourage the impactful use of data science across domains.
DMS also plays a central role in facilitating the exchange of ideas among scholars and practitioners through conferences, workshops, and competitions. It organizes the annual Data Mining and Decision Analytics (DMDA) workshop, DM Paper Competitions, DM Data Challenge and Data Mining Prize, which actively promote cross-disciplinary collaboration, aiming to bridge the gap between academia and industry, and stimulate conversation on emerging challenges and opportunities in the data science ecosystem.
In addition, the Society is committed to nurturing the next generation of data scientists by engaging undergraduate students, graduate students, and early-career researchers through educational initiatives, mentorship, and professional development opportunities. Through these efforts, the INFORMS Data Mining Society continues to shape the future of data science, analytics, and intelligent decision-making in an increasingly data-driven world.
