Message from the Section Chair

Dear member:

I hope this message finds you well. This newsletter provides some updates from the Section.

We have formed an important Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee lead by Dorothee Honhon (UT Dallas). An important step of this effort is a survey (see more details later in the letter) that will help assess where the RMP section stands. We would like to have maximal participation so please take the survey here.

Our section conference is scheduled for June 7-9, 2023 at Imperial College, with an exciting program of talks. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the organizing committee Gah-Yi Ban, Anran Li, Xiaocheng Li, Zhe Liu, and Kalyan Talluri for all their hard work. I also would like to encourage everyone in our community to register and attend the conference. Please go to the conference website (here) for details.

Every year, we celebrate many of the important advances made in the community. I am pleased to report that we have two fantastic committees for our annual Section and Jeff McGill Student Paper awards.

  • Section Award: The committee is being chaired by Huseyin Topaloglu (Cornell University) and includes Kostas Bimpikis (Stanford), Felipe Caro (UCLA) and Jun Li (University of Michigan). The submission deadline is July 14, 2023.
  • Jeff McGill Student Paper Award: The committee is being chaired by Vahideh Manshadi (Yale University) and includes Ali Aouad (London Business School), Yonatan Gur (Stanford University), Krishnamurthy Iyer (University of Minnesota), Hongyao Ma (Columbia University), Rad Niazadeh (University of Chicago), Marcelo Olivares (University of Chile), Ozge Sahin (Johns Hopkins University), Mika Sumida (USC). The submission deadline is July 31, 2023.

The practice award will resume in 2024.

I want to thank all committee members for supporting these important awards.

If you have any suggestions or questions, please feel free to reach out to me. Also, don’t forget to invite your colleagues and students to join our RMP Section (details on how to join at the end).

Best wishes.

Omar Besbes

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee

An inaugural committee on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) was set up at the 2022 INFORMS conference, with the dual objective of: (1) forming general principles and guidelines on how to approach DEI issues and (2) advising the board on initiatives to promote diversity, equitable access to opportunities and a sense of belonging in our section.  Dorothee Honhon (UT Dallas), along with nine committee members (see list below), are leading this effort. An important part of these efforts is a survey, where we need your help.

2023 RMP Section Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) Survey

The Revenue Management and Pricing Section is committed to providing a diverse, equitable and inclusive environment for all attendees to its events and initiatives.

As part of this effort, a DEI Committee was formed last Fall and has prepared a survey, which I encourage you to take: Please take the survey here.  Here’s a quick message from the committee: “We know you are probably receiving different DEI survey each month from your workplace and the various communities you belong to.  So, we wanted to focus on questions which are specific to your experience as a professional in your interactions with the RMP Section, as well as questions regarding potential new initiatives to increase diversity, equity, inclusion and a sense of belonging in our community.”

All responses are anonymous and completely confidential. The aggregate results of the survey, along with a plan of action for proposed changes and new initiatives, will be discussed at the INFORMS Annual Meeting in October.  A summary of its findings will be made available on the RMP section website after the conference.

If you have any questions, comments or suggestions, please reach out to Dorothee at dorothee.honhon@utdallas.edu
