Message from the Section Chair

Dear RMP Section Members,

It is a privilege to step into the role of Section Chair for 2026. The RMP Section has been a cornerstone of my professional journey, and I am eager to give back to a community that has provided me with so much support over the years.

We find ourselves at an exciting juncture where Revenue Management and Pricing is driving substantial value in both academic literature and industrial application. This momentum is a direct result of our members' dedication. I am deeply grateful to our immediate past chair, Huseyin Topaloglu, for his exceptional stewardship; he hands over a section that is in excellent health. I would also like to extend my sincere thanks to our departing officers—Vivek Farias (past chair), Kris Ferreira (board member), and Ali Aouad (treasurer/secretary)—for their committed service. Simultaneously, I am thrilled to welcome our incoming team: Zizhuo Wang as Chair-Elect, Zhe Liu as Treasurer/Secretary, and Wil Ma as our newest Board Member. We are also fortunate to retain the talents of George Chen (newsletter), Sophia Huang (social media), and Sami Najafi (webmaster), whose behind-the-scenes work keeps us connected.

In this newsletter, Huseyin provides a recap of the Section's current state. You will also find details on active initiatives and, importantly, a call for proposals to host the RMP Annual Conference.

I hope to maintain an open line of communication with you all. Please do not hesitate to contact me with suggestions for new programs or general feedback. Finally, let’s continue to grow our network. Please encourage your PhD students and colleagues to officially join the RMP Section (instructions included below).

Best wishes,

Stef

Annual State of the Section Address

In 2025, the RMP section has remained strong in all fronts including membership, finance and activities. In what follows, I would like to provide a brief summary of the state of the RMP Section and introduce the new members of the board.

Membership:

As of October 2025, our membership reached 654 members.

In terms of demographics, our section has a composition that is similar to the overall composition of INFORMS with a predominantly male population. This is an area where we see an opportunity to grow and moving forward we need to keep working on expanding the diversity of our membership.

Finance:

Our finances remain healthy with a balance of $106,616.

Activities:

I) Conferences

  • Annual RMP Conference: The annual 2025 section conference was successfully hosted by Columbia business school last July. The conference included 3 plenary sessions and 156 talks. I want to take this opportunity to thank the organizing committee of the RMP conference Santiago Balseiro and Will Ma for putting together a fantastic and stimulating conference.

Mark your calendars! The 2026 RMP conference will be hosted by Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan (July 21-23, 2026)

The 2027 RMP conference will be held at University of Colorado Leeds School of Business.

  • INFORMS Conference: The RMP Cluster at the 2025 INFORMS was organized by Junyu Cao (UT Austin), Yifan Feng (NUS), and Shreyas Sekar (Toronto). The cluster included 53 sessions and 235 talks. A big thank you goes to Junyu, Yifan and Shreyas for their effort in running a very successful cluster.

  • 2025 RMP Section Award
    • Winners: Maxime Cohen (McGill), Adam Elmachtoub (Columbia), Xiao Lei (Columbia), for their paper “Price Discrimination with Fairness Constraints”.
      • The paper addresses a timely and relevant topic. Traditionally, pricing models have focused primarily on profit maximization without explicitly considering societal or ethical implications. This paper closes that gap by systematically incorporating into revenue management different measures of fairness—namely, price fairness, demand fairness, consumer surplus fairness, and no-purchase valuation fairness. First, the paper shows that achieving multiple fairness measures simultaneously is inherently impossible due to fundamental trade-offs. Second, it shows that a small amount of price fairness increases social welfare. In contrast, imposing demand or consumer surplus fairness is always detrimental to social welfare, whereas imposing no-purchase valuation fairness is always beneficial. These findings allow for a deeper understanding of how firms can align economic objectives with socially responsible practices. The paper has inspired many follow-up studies on fairness considerations in revenue management and pricing.
