Awards of the ENRE Section

Every year, ENRE awards a number of prizes to recognize outstanding academic contributions in the field of Operations Research & Management Science with applications in energy, natural resources and the environment. The award winners will be announced during the ENRE Business Meeting at the INFORMS Annual Meeting.

Harold Hotelling Medal award

This is a competitive award that recognizes ​the lifetime achievements of INFORMS scholars who have made sustained and exceptional contributions to the major areas spanned by ENRE. The name honors the legacy of Harold Hotelling (1895-1973) who made extensive theoretical contributions to the fields of economics and statistics and applied optimization methods to various practical and important problems in economics, most notably to spatial economics and optimum management of natural resources.All members of INFORMS who do outstanding work in one or more of the ENRE-related areas are eligible for nomination.

Young Researcher Prize

The ENRE Young Researcher Prize is awarded annually at the INFORMS Annual Meeting to one or more young researcher(s) for an outstanding paper on the application of OR/MS to an important problem in energy, natural resources, or the environment.  The Prize serves as an esteemed recognition of promising researchers who are at the beginning of their academic or industrial career.

ENRE Best Student Paper Award

This award is given annually to the best paper dealing with energy, environmental, or natural resource issues by a student author who is presenting at the INFORMS Annual Meeting, as judged by a panel of the Energy, Natural Resources, and the Environment Section. Award finalists will present their submitted papers in the ENRE award session at the INFORMS Annual Meeting. This award was formerly also known as "Student Travel Award" and "Student Paper Award".

Best Publications Awards in Energy, Natural Resources & Environment and Sustainability

The ENRE Best Publication Awards are given annually to the best refereed journal articles in the three core areas of interest of ENRE. The objective of the award is to recognize the contributions of ENRE members to the respective research fields. Nominated publications will be judged by separate committees for each area with respect to impact and originality.
