Sharing this course held from Janaury 26-30 at EPFL (Lausanne, Switzerland): Accurate predictions of the demand and market shares are critical for a wide variety of businesses and public organizations. Examples of applications include: predicting demand for a new product under alternative pricing strategies; designing a business plan for a new technology; analyzing the impact of a merger on market shares; forecasting the ridership on a new metropolitan transit service; and analyzing competitive scenarios for introducing a new telecommunication service. To accomplish these tasks, discrete choice analysis provides powerful methodological tools. Based on the ...

I am forwarding this message from Eleftheria Kontou and Denissa Purba: Dear all, I am reaching out to invite you to participate in our survey on Electric Vehicle (EV) Evacuations . With our stated preference survey, we aim to investigate and model how drivers of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) choose routes and make charging decisions during an evacuation order. Our goals are to: Characterize routing and charging preferences of BEV drivers during an evacuation order; Provide recommendations and guidelines to planners and decision-makers who aim to reduce BEV drivers’ vulnerability by integrating recharging-routing ...

The yearly INFORMS Business Analytics Conference is always packed full of highlights from the keynote speaker to the Edelman Competition to theme sessions to presentation of the Wagner wining paper (this year Intel’s The Sort-Assemble-Blend Routing Problem and its Application to Semiconductors). I always find hidden gems in the Vendor sessions on Sunday. Here I want to briefly highlight two of them. · Irv Lustig (Princeton Consultants): “Pandas for Analytics Practitioners, with Applications in Optimization · Frederic Gardi (Hexaly ): a New Kind of Global Optimization Solver Details about all of the sessions can be found ...
The United States is in a high-stakes global race to lead and innovate in artificial intelligence, and we can’t compete without making immediate, sweeping changes to our manpower management model. China is on track to reach its goal of AI technology dominance by 2030 — but while AI and data science roles are demonstrating rapid growth in almost every sector, the U.S is lagging far behind. At a high level, our problem isn’t hard to diagnose: we don’t have enough talent to fill existing AI positions, and our current system is too slow and monolithic to keep up with future developments. To catch up with foreign competition, we’ll need broader thinking, a bigger ...

Hi Zihaan, I found this article about computer vision using Keras really interesting because it explained how computers learn to recognize things in images. It was cool to learn about Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) and how they've evolved from basic versions like LeNet to more advanced ones like AlexNet. The article also talked about how important it is to choose the right settings for these networks, which are called hyperparameters, and how using pre-existing networks through transfer learning can help in new projects. As someone new to AI, I was intrigued by the use of specific datasets like CIFAR-10 for training these networks. It's not just about ...
Multiobjective Optimization on a Budget Guest Editors: Richard Allmendinger (University of Manchester, United Kingdom) Serpil Sayin (Koç University, Turkey) Margaret M.
