Officer Responsibilites

The following provides a general description of what each INFORMS officer does, though responsibilities often are shared informally among officers. Officers are welcome to plan and purse events that they are passionate about, regardless of their role. Both Masters and PhD students are encouraged to join the INFORMS student chapter at some point during their time at UT!



President: oversees and leads INFORMS events and officers, assists officers with duties, announces and presides over officer meetings, maintains contact with the Institute, and provides direction to the activities of the chapter and its officers.

Vice President: Assumes duties of the absent president, and works with the president to guarantee the success of INFORMS officer meetings and events.

Secretary: administers amendments to bylaws, records and disseminates meeting notes for all officer meetings, maintains files, and files the annual report to the Institute that describes chapter activities, renews the organization’s annual registration with the University

Treasurer: responsible for financial matters, including receipt of all financial reports from the Institute and conveyance of financial information to the chapter membership. Approves all expenditures and monitors receipts or conveys receipts to the Institute in a fiscally sound manner. 

Webmaster: keeps the INFORMS website up-to-date with organization information, event photos, and resources. 

MEGSB Representative: attends all Mechanical Engineering Graduate Student Board (MEGSB) meetings and represents graduate students in the ORIE program

GSA Representatives: attend all Graduate Student Assembly (GSA) meetings and represent graduate students in the ORIE program. One primary and one alternate representative should be selected

GEC Representative: attends all Graduate Engineering Council (GEC) meetings and represents graduate students in the ORIE program.

Public Relations Chair: charged with advertising events on social media (Facebook, Twitter, Slack, mailing list), maintaining the INFORMS twitter, and working with the webmaster to create content for the INFORMS website, like the Student Spotlights series.

Social Events Chair: responsible for the coordination of social events put on by INFORMS, including booking and coordinating venues and advertising the events. The main events are the bi-annual potluck, new student happy hour, and sports social.

Professional Development Chair: responsible for the coordination of professional and service events put on by INFORMS, and sharing relevant job postings and professional development opportunities in Slack and the mailing list.
