  • 1.  Bylaw changes

    Fellow members,

In accordance with our bylaws, Chris Smith our President and board member and Les Servi, our past president and board member, have contacted me about requesting two changes to our bylaws.  The changes focus on Article VI – Election and Tenure of Section Officials, specifically paragraph 4 which discusses the nomination of the Vice President. The suggested changes are:

    From:

“The Nominating Committee, composed of a chair and at least two additional Section members, shall prepare a slate consisting of at least two nominees for office of President and one nominee for all other positions.”

To (change in bold an underlined):

“The Nominating Committee, composed of the President as chair and at least two additional Section members, shall prepare a slate consisting of at least one nominees for office of President and one nominee for all other positions.”

The first change simply puts the President of the section in the nominating committee and makes him the chair, adding section leadership into the nominating committee.  This second change would allow for uncontested elections in the event of not enough interested candidates.

Again, in accordance with our bylaws these are the suggested changes, and we will discuss these changes during our business meeting at the Annual INFORMS conference in November.  Following that discussion, I will send out a copy of the proposed amendment to the members of the section for your vote.  Please let me know any questions you have.  Thank you.
