  • 1.  New Column Generation Book

    Posted 09-07-2024 07:44

I highly recommend the recently published Part I of the excellent book Optimizing with Column Generation by Eduardo Uchoa, Artur Pessoa, and Lorenza Moreno.

Having closely followed the entire writing process of this book, I can confirm that the authors have devoted an incredible amount of effort to provide rigorous, informative and comprehensive material for the interested reader.

As stated by the authors themselves: "The primary goal of this book is to lower these educational barriers and encourage wider application of Column Generation, not only organizing and summarizing existing literature but also sharing insights from decades of practical experience, offering unique guidance not found elsewhere."

I can't wait for Part II!

In view of your lively and diverse contributions to our entire (North, South and Central) American and worldwide OR-MS family, I firmly believe that many will follow your advice, read and benefit at lot from the book Optimizing with Column Generation, which you presented so attractively.

Actually, we may also consider this book for a report in our IFORS News Book Review section. Here I believe in another fine appreciation and resonance.

Knowing how busy you are, I may nevertheless say that you are most welcome to convey this option and idea to the book authors and scholars, dear Eduardo Uchoa, dear Artur Pessoa and dear Lorenza Moreno.

Having said this I will not miss my chance of thanking you for your great report "The Subject to (s.t.) Podcast Inspiring interviews with dozens of OR personalities across the globe and more than 60,000 views on YouTube" in IFORS News, December 2023 issue, for your great presentation in the Stream "Moments in the History of OR" at EURO 2024 in Copenhagen, and your continuous efforts to support the whole community, particularly within INFORMS, and its many members!

Thanks a lot to INFORMS for making this new discussion and threat possible and hosting it so friendly.
