Hello supergeeks - once again we are running the Freestyle OR Supreme Expo Game Show at the Annual Meeting in Phoenix and (global warming or not) it will be hot, hot, HOT!
This fast-moving game-style show has our sponsor give a 15 minute overview of an OR/analytics problem "in the wild," and then our teams of hardworking students get together and present a solution "on the fly." We have the students. We need the problem.
Past sponsors have included SAS Software, Convoy Trucking, Trinity Rail, and if you really want to be the company of greatness, go all the way to Minnesota and ask our GOAT @Jim Williams, CAP, about his debut as our pilot Mr. "I have a Problem" Client.
What we would ask of a sponsor:
- Bring us a 10-15 minute overview of a real world analytics problem that you will share with students
- Present it at the FSORS Expo at the Annual Meeting
- Listen to each of the student teams explain their answer
- Provide feedback and pick a winner!
You are welcome to include additional loot; Trinity Rail had little choo-choo trains, and SAS had some great conference swag. (To everybody's disappointment, Jim didn't actually give away any wine.)
Upsides here are tremendous: you get great exposure, you can see consulting skills in action before you do a career fair interview, and you will be giving forward to the next generation.
Reach out to me, Carrie Beam cbeam@ucdavis.edu, if you're interested in being our sponsor!
Thank you, and may the odds be ever in your favor.
