PhD Student Travel Grant: Second Triennial Conference

Chicago, IL, July 23 – 26, 2023

The Transportation Science and Logistics Society Conference provides an opportunity for all members to gather on a triennial basis to present and to discuss the state-of-the-art in optimization applied to transportation science and logistics. To make the conference more accessible to the next generation of transportation science and logistics researchers, the following travel grants are available for PhD students. You do not need to be presenting at the conference to be eligible for a travel grant.

North American PhD Student Travel Grant

The US National Science Foundation has graciously agreed to sponsor travel grants of up to $1,000 for 30 students to attend the TSL Conference 2023.

International PhD Student Travel Grant

Flexport, a multinational corporation that focuses on supply chain management and logistics, has graciously agreed to sponsor travel grants of up to $500 for 6 students studying at Universities outside US to attend the TSL Conference 2023.

What It Covers:

The travel grants can be used for all travel expenses including airfare, ground transportation, hotel, and food. The grant does not cover conference registration. Conference registration is $250/$150 regular/early registration.

How to Apply for These Grants:

To apply, send

  • A cover letter indicating how you will benefit from the conference and from the travel funds,
  • a CV, and
  • your conference abstract if you submitted

to Sara Reeds at sara.reed@ku.edu. Use the subject “TSL Conference 2023 PhD Student Travel Grant Application.”

Application Evaluation:

Applications will be reviewed by the Organizing Committee. Reviewers will rate each application based on the perceived benefit the applicant will receive from attending the conference and the applicant's access to conferences and workshops in general. Applicants should address these criteria in their cover letters. Preference will be given to students whose abstracts are chosen for the conference. Preference will also be given to PhD students who are entering the last year of their programs.

  • Application submission deadline: March 15, 2023
  • Deadline for early registration: April 3, 2023
  • Notification of award: May 1, 2023
  • Conference: July23 to July 25, 2023
