User-Centric Data Analytics in Urban Railway Systems: Monitoring, Prediction, and Planning

When:  Jun 28, 2023 from 10:00 to 11:00 (ET)

Automated data collection systems in the urban railway industry, such as automated fare collection and automated vehicle location, provide urban railway agencies and operators with extensive data about the state of the system and its use by passengers. The data can inform various functions from planning to operations, measuring and monitoring performance, and understanding user spatiotemporal travel patterns. We demonstrate the applicability and value of the data with examples of recent developments and applications: a) monitoring system performance from a passenger’s point of view; b) inferring passengers’ choice behaviors from trajectory data; c) predictive analytics for real-time decisions to improve operations and level of service; and d) designing demand management strategies to maximize capacity utilization.
