Research on railway traffic management optimization has been quickly developing for more than fifteen years. Participating in this development, the railway traffic management team of the ESTAS laboratory of Université Gustave Eiffel has been designing algorithms for railway traffic management. The main peculiarities of these algorithms are the consideration of a microscopic infrastructure representation and the concurrent optimization of train scheduling and routing. These algorithms are tested on a collection of realistic case studies. These tests often involve microscopic simulation.
This presentation will outline the RECIFE platform, that makes possible this algorithmic design and testing. Successful applications will be described, and some open research directions will be sketched.
