  • 1.  Version 3.5.0 of Decision Modeling

    Posted 07-17-2024 13:32

Since Version 3.4.0 of Decision Modeling, some new material has been added in Section 3.5.6 (pages 203-206), and a new problem for student completion which is related to this new material appears in section 3.7.1 as # 18 on page 216. A few minor changes appear elsewhere. Version 3.5.0 is available for free pdf download from: https://linney.mun.ca/pages/view.php?ref=36808.

This book covers the modeling of linear and integer programming, sensitivity analysis, goal and non-linear programming, and decision analysis. Problem solutions are obtained using both LINGO and the Excel Solver. The use of LINGO is in scalar mode, which avoids the use of sets, thereby making things easier for the intended audience of business students doing a survey course on optimization.

Even if you are teaching an OR course which overlaps only part of the coverage of this pdf, you might wish to include it in a reading list. It is and will always remain a free resource.

The solutions to all the end-of-chapter problems are as they were for Version 3.4.0, except that the solution of # 18 in Chapter 3 now appears in the Chapter 3 solutions. These solutions, made as nine pdf files totalling 357 pages, can be requested by contacting me at dtulett@mun.ca.

I will retire on August 31, when I will be 71. Version 3.5.0 will be the last version written while being a professor, but I will make the updating of this book my retirement project.
