INFORMS Open Forum

I recently joined the INFORMS webinar on October 17, 2024, called "Find Your Superpower: Unleash the Power of Analytics for Good" with Dr. Kendra C. Taylor, and it was truly motivating. Dr. Taylor made it clear that analytics isn't just for experts-it's a tool anyone can use to make a difference, no matter their level of experience. She shared practical tips on finding meaning in every project and thinking of ourselves not just as data analysts, but as people who can solve real-world problems.

She highlighted how our skills can be used to address important social issues, like preventing human trafficking, and introduced programs like INFORMS Pro Bono Analytics that connect professionals with nonprofits in need. Her message about understanding the bigger picture of the problems we solve really stuck with me.

This reminded me of my experiences at UC Davis, where we use similar approaches in practicum projects with industry partners. It reinforced that the skills we're building aren't just for the classroom-they can actually make a real impact. The session was an empowering reminder of how we can all use our skills to do good in the world.
