It's unfortunate, James, and it's like big companies to do layoffs at holiday time. but it's also an opportunity. Think of it that way; you can work to find something that will be a better fit for you at this time in your life. INFORMS networks can be of some help, and of course INFORMNS has a job marketplace also. I've dropped in on them at the Annual Conference, but don't know much about them otherwise. Networking with applied analytics members can also help.
I've been out of the job chase for a while, but I still think contacts are vitally important even though some of the boiler plate is handled online.
