    IEOM-FlexSim Student Simulation Competition

    Computer-based simulation is one of the most powerful tools available today to support problem-solving and analyse of complex systems. The IEOM-FlexSim Student Simulation Competition is an international simulation competition hosted by the Industrial Engineering and Operations Management Society and Advent2 Labs Consultation Pte Ltd, an authorized-distributor for FlexSim Simulation Software by FlexSim Software Products, Inc. (An AutoDesk Company) that provides students with an opportunity to demonstrate their problem-solving, presentation, and discrete-event simulation modeling and analysis skills.

    Awards:

    All participating team members will receive a Certification of Participation.

    Up to four teams will be selected as finalists. These teams will continue the competition at the IEOM International Conference in Singapore. The finalists will be ranked in terms of their excellence in simulation modeling and analysis and the overall quality of their project.

    Cash prizes for each team, as shown below, and certificates of excellence for each team member, will be presented to the finalists at the conference's award dinner in Singapore.

    Timeline:

    All dates and times are based on Singapore time, GMT+8.  

    1. Registration                                                               1st Oct ~ 281th Oct 2024
    2. Release of case description and contest rules    27th Oct 2024
    3. Submission of work                                                    21st Dec 2024
    4. Announcement of finalists                                          mid-Jan 2025
    5. Final presentation of the finalists at IEOM Conf.    18~20 Feb 2025

     

    All finalists must register for and attend the IEOM Conference, on 18~20 February 2025 in Singapore.

    General rules and guidelines:

    Registration:

          No more than two teams from any one institution will submit.

          Each team should be no more than three participants.

          At the time of registration, each team member must be registered as an undergraduate or graduate student at the participating institution.

          Each team member must register using their university email account.

          All registrations must be made online through the IEOM Conference website. The link for online registration will be available beginning on 1st Oct 2024 and ending on 28th Oct 2024.

    Competition:

          After the registration closes, the teams will receive a case study description, supporting information, and final conference rules.

          All simulation modeling and analysis work must be done using FlexSim simulation software. Each team member will receive a FlexSim license for use during the competition.

          No submissions will be accepted after the submission deadline, 2359 hours, 21st December 2024.

          Each team will submit, by the competition deadline, the following deliverables; specific requirements for each will be provided with the competition package.

    1.      All FlexSim and supporting files for the models.

    and both of the following:

    2.      Report, in English and a maximum of ten pages in length and submit a paper with IEOM format for publication and indexing.

    3.      Video, in English, not to exceed 5 minutes.

          Based on the competition criteria, up to four teams will be selected as finalists; and will be invited to present their solution in the final round, which will be held at the 15th Annual International IEOM Conference in Singapore in Feb 2024.

          All members of the finalist teams must register and attend the IEOM Conference and participate in the final presentation.

     

    Judging Criteria:

    The work of the participating teams will be evaluated based on:

    1. Model quality and validity (30%)
    2. Problem-solving approach and quality of the analysis (30%)
    3. Creativity and cost-effectiveness of the proposed solution (30%)
    4. Aesthetics of the model and submission (10%)

    Costs:

          Each student needs to register and pay the conference registration. They can attend the whole conference.

          Winners will receive monetary prizes as mention earlier and certificates

          Each team member will receive a timed version of FlexSim simulation software for use during the competition period.
