HOPE Research Workshop at Notre Dame, September 25-27, 2025

The Humanitarian OPErations-HOPE Lab at the Mendoza College of Business, University of Notre Dame, USA, will host an on-campus research workshop from September 25-27, 2025. The event will take place from the evening of September 25 to noon on September 27.

There is no registration fee; participants are only responsible for their travel and accommodation expenses. Due to space constraints, the event will be limited to 40 participants, including presenters, discussants, and the audience.

The event aims to engage young researchers, junior faculty, and senior PhD students as presenters while inviting senior faculty with editorial experience to participate as discussants and audience members.

There are two presentation formats: (1) full paper for discussion, which requires the submission of a working paper for the discussant to read in advance, and (2) ongoing research, which requires an abstract submission.

Note that the registration form will ask you to upload your paper as a PDF file or submit your abstract, depending on the option you select. We will review the submissions and notify you of our decision within one week after the July 15 deadline. Please make travel arrangements only after you receive the submission decision.

Register following this link by July 15, 2025:

You may wonder why we need another research event.

On the academic side, we have very active communities on humanitarian operations, nonprofit management, and business on the frontlines at POMS, INFORMS, DSI, AOM, and other societies. While some overlap exists, there is no space for these communities to connect and exchange ideas or share research insights. On the practice side, the unprecedented cuts to humanitarian budgets in 2025 highlight the urgent need for more research on allocating scarce resources for effective humanitarian decision-making.

We hope you find this research workshop interesting.

    Sincerely,

    Alfonso Pedraza-Martinez, apedraz2@nd.edu
