Fun post - what do you call a group of operations researchers?

  • 1.  Fun post - what do you call a group of operations researchers?

    A gaggle of geese.

    A murder of crows.

    A parliament of owls.

    A flamboyance of flamingos.

    A pride of lions.

What do you call a group of operations researchers?

If they are orderly, then I would call them "a queue of operations researchers".

Unfortunately, the INFORMS membership is at best partially stochastically ordered, and maybe not even that. I think the queueing theorists and the simulators are still arguing about stochastic dominance.

After more annual meetings than I care to count, I'm pretty sure we can rule out "optimization ninjas". Ninjas are quiet, right?

"The Operatti of Operations Researchers" brings a sense of mystery, and sounds like a group of highly-skilled individuals deftly operating/working on complex challenges while maintaining a connection to the field of Operations Research through the term "operatti" (which is reminiscent of "operations").

A gurobi of optimizers? at the risk of annoying other vendors. It works better than an ampl of optimizers.

I can't believe no one has suggested what I'm about to suggest yet, but here it goes...

A group of operations researchers is obviously called a simplex. :-D
