July 14th is shark awareness day. Have you had any close encounters with a shark? Did the movie "Jaws" terrify you as a child like it did me?

Living next to the Monterey Bay, CA and near the red triangle....sharks definitely have a presence.  My son is a huge fan of shark documentaries....of which many new ones just dropped on Disney+ (via NatGeo).  23Jul is also the kick-off of shark week on Discovery.  I have scuba dived in the presence of "small" sharks, but I would not consider that a close encounter.

I have not had any close encounters with a shark, but for 8 years we vacationed in Hilton Head Island during shark week, watched the programming, and didn't go past our waste in the water! Jaws still is fun - we watched the one that had a Christmas scene last Christmas for fun.

I was swimming off the coast of San Francisco but heard of sharks there. After all, it is miles away from Tiburon, CA (Spanish for shark). No sharks, but the water was very cold.

I was terrified by the movie Jaws, and "we'll need a bigger boat."
