INFORMS Early Career Practitioner Award Committee Volunteer Opportunity
IMPORTANT NOTE: To be eligible to serve on an INFORMS level award committee, you must be an INFORMS member and not currently serving (same award year) on another INFORMS level award committee. INFORMS Prizes & Awards
• Deadline for applying for this committee: September 15, 2025
• Length of appointment: One award cycle (October 1, 2025 – April 30, 2027);
• Time Commitment per year: Work begins in December 2025; with several conference calls through the end of February. Approximately 20 hours per award cycle.
Description of award:
• The purpose is to engage and recognize early career professionals in the fields of operations research, management science, and advanced analytics for their exceptional contributions to business/industry, government, and consulting, and service to the profession.
• The award seeks to acknowledge individuals who have made significant contributions within the initial five years of their post-graduation employment and currently working outside of academia. INFORMS Early Career Practitioner Award
Brief description of committee responsibilities:
• Reading full set of submissions and evaluation based on policy document
• Participating in several conference calls to determine winner.
Skill set needed for selection committee:
• Represent a cross section of OR/MS: applied vs. theoretical, probabilistic vs. deterministic, academic vs. practice, etc
• Understanding of the unique roles and responsibilities of industry professionals
• Flexibility of personal schedule to read and evaluate a variety of submissions
• Ability to understand the projects/programs presented by the applicants
• Ability to deliberate in a collegial manner
• Flexibility to participate in conference calls during the workday
• Being able to share your evaluation opinions and advocate for submissions
