Join me in congratulating Dr. Hung-po Chao, the recipient of INFORMS-ENRE Hotelling Medal for lifetime achievements in Energy, Natural Resources and Environment.
Dr. Hung-po Chao is the CEO of Energy Trading Analytics. Over the last 45 years, he has made fundamental contributions to theory and implementation of energy modeling, environmental policy, and electricity market design. His research contributions include: Large scale energy market equilibrium modeling; Exhaustible resource economics, OECD oil import policies; Managing risk of global climate change; Utility fuel operations modeling (awarded 2nd place 1988 Edelman); Peak load pricing of electricity; Priority service pricing; Flow-based transmission pricing and transmission rights; Integer relaxation for electricity pricing in non-convex markets; Stochastic market clearing. He held leadership positions in the power industry, including: Chief Economist and Senior Director for Markets at PJM Interconnection; Director of Market Strategy and Analysis at ISO New England; Director of Market Monitoring at ISO New England; and Program/Area Manager for Environmental/Policy and Risk Analysis at EPRI. He holds a Ph.D. in Operations Research from Stanford University and is an INFORMS Fellow."
