    The deadline for entries into the 2024 MIF Student Poster Competition has been extended until Tuesday, May 28. This is the final call for abstracts so please submit your abstracts as soon as possible.  

    The INFORMS Minority Issues Forum (MIF) is pleased to announce the call for posters for the 2024 MIF Student Poster Competition. Judging will occur before the INFORMS Annual Meeting in Seattle, WA, and students will present their posters during a poster session at conference. Winners will be announced during the MIF Business Meeting and MIF Reception. The competition is open to students who are MIF members. The first-place winner will receive an honorarium of $500 and a certificate, while Honorable Mentions will each receive a certificate.

    Important Dates:

    1. May 28, 2024: Abstract submission deadline;
    2. May 31, 2024: Abstract acceptance notification and further information will be distributed; 
    3.  July 8, 2024: Final poster PDF submission. Submissions received prior to June 24th may request preliminary feedback on their submission; and 
    4.  October 20-23, 2024: Poster session and winner announcement during the INFORMS Annual Meeting.  

    Details:

    1.    Length requirements: The abstract should be 500 characters maximum (approximately 50 words), and the title of the abstract should be 100 characters maximum. This may be an original abstract, or the same abstract submitted for an INFORMS General session.

    2.    Eligibility requirements: Submissions must be made by students who are INFORMS members. The student must be the lead author, a MIF member, and the submitted poster must not have won an award at any previous INFORMS competitions.

    3.    To enter: Please send an email (indicating 2024 MIF Poster Competition in the subject line) a document with the following information to mif.informs@gmail.com:

    1.    The entrant and all co-authors' names, current affiliations, email addresses, and phone numbers;

    2.    Poster title and abstract;

    3.    A statement that all eligibility requirements have been met.

    4.    If capacity is reached, poster presenters may be limited to one submission.

    5.    Travel assistance: A limited number of travel scholarships to the INFORMS conference will be available for participants of the MIF poster session. Eligibility for travel grants is restricted to US Citizens from underrepresented groups.

    About MIF

    The purpose of the Minority Issues Forum is to foster under-represented minority participation in Operations Research and Management Science (ORMS); to develop close ties among those interested in increasing the number of minority participants in ORMS, and in disseminating information about the issues facing minority researchers and practitioners. Any INFORMS member may become a Forum member by paying the Forum dues. Non-members of the Institute may become Forum members by paying the special fee for non-members of the Institute.
