INFORMS invites submissions for the 3rd Annual Webinar on Contemporary Operations Management in Developing Economies, a global forum designed to connect researchers who may not be able to attend the INFORMS Annual Meeting in person.

We welcome working papers and papers under review that address real-world challenges in developing economies across all OM topics and methods.

There is no fee to submit, present, or attend

    Key dates:

    • Abstract submission deadline: June 1, 2026
    • Notification of acceptance: August 1, 2026
    • Webinar: October 5–6, 2026

Selected presenters will participate in a live Q&A and compete for the INFORMS award.

    Abstract format/structure

Abstracts must be submitted through the INFORMS platform at  https://www.informs.org/Communities/Contemporary-Operations-in-Developing-Economies

Summary: Must be one paragraph and strictly limited to 150 words. (Do not include keywords. This summary does not count toward the 1,000-word extended abstract.)

    Extended abstract:

    1-    Problem definition (250 words)
Provide a brief discussion of the research motivation, background, and research questions. Citing references is not required for this extended abstract. Authors may discuss local realities, institutional constraints, and system limitations that motivate the study.

2-    Method and Results (400 words)
Explain the method without including mathematical equations. It is important to demonstrate that the study is rigorous. Authors are therefore encouraged to describe their methods concisely and clearly. For example, for an empirical study, describe the data source and the analytical approaches used. For modeling research, describe the general modeling approach and highlight any novel or particularly appealing features of the model.

3-    Impact and Managerial Insights (350 words)
Describe the key theoretical and/or managerial insights of the study. Explain the practical implications and applicability of the findings, including their potential impact and applicability for organizations, policymakers, or practitioners in the relevant developing-economy context.

For any question, please feel free to reach out to me (eftekhar@asu.edu) or Adriana Leiras (adriana.leiras@hanken.fi).

Let's strengthen global research connections and amplify scholarship from developing economies.
