Service Management
2026 SIG Day
HBS, BU, and MIT
July 12, 2026
The Service Management Special Interest Group (SIG) of the Manufacturing and Service Operations Management (MSOM) Society will hold its annual conference ("Service Management SIG Day") on July 12, 2026, preceding the MSOM 2026 conference (July, 13-14).
On behalf of the Service Management SIG, we are pleased to invite you to submit papers to this conference. Acceptance decisions will be based on full-paper submissions. In-person presentations of the accepted papers will be scheduled in a single track. We will focus on curating high-quality contributions that ensure a cohesive and diverse program. We encourage submissions of applied, empirical, methodological, or theoretical papers that delve into any area within the expansive and evolving field of service operations.
Important Dates
Manuscript Central Submission Opens: January 9, 2026
Submission Deadline: January 30, 2026
Please note that no extensions will be given for the submission deadline. To facilitate the review process, we encourage you to submit your papers as early as possible. Notification of acceptance: May 8, 2026
Submission Guidelines and Review Process
Submission portal: Please submit your paper via the following manuscript central submission site (please note that this is different from the MSOM Journal submission site):
https://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/msomconference
SIG and MSOM main conference. SIG authors who want their papers to be considered for the MSOM main conference presentation (in case of rejection by the SIG) should also submit an extended abstract to the MSOM main conference separately. Please indicate that you submitted your paper to SIG when submitting to the MSOM main conference. In this case, the SIG and the MSOM Conference will conduct independent reviews. The SIG-Day Event Co-Chairs will communicate their lists of accepted papers to the MSOM Conference Chairs so that accepted SIG-Day Event presentations may be removed from consideration for an MSOM Conference presentation slot.
Formatting requirements. Each paper should comply with MSOM journal's formatting standards: https://pubsonline.informs.org/page/MSOM/submission-guidelines.
Number of submissions. The same work can be presented only once during the entire conference period. Therefore, please do not submit the same work to multiple SIGs. Also, each attendee is limited to one submission for the MSOM conference, one submission for each SIG Meeting, and two presentations during the entire conference period.
Further information. Additional guidelines may be announced by each SIG through INFORMS CONNECT.
MSOM Journal and SIG Dual Purpose Submission
Authors can choose from two distinct submission options for SIGs, each following a separate review and decision process. The first option is the traditional SIG review option while the second option allows a dual submission to MSOM journal.
● Option 1: Single Purpose-SIG-Day presentation
○ Review Process: Handled by SIG-Day Event Co-chairs
○ Decision makers: SIG-Day Event Co-chairs
● Option 2: Dual Purposes-(1) SIG-Day presentation, (2) 1st round review (1RR) by MSOM Journal
○ Eligibility: Papers not under review at any other journals.
○ Review Process: Handled by SIG-Day Event Co-chairs (for SIG day) and by MSOM Journal review team in MSOM format (for MSOM journal).
○ Decision makers:
■ SIG-Day Co-chairs make SIG Day Presentation Decisions
■ MSOM DEs make MSOM Journal Decisions
○ Decision:
■ SIG Day Presentation and MSOM Journal Decisions are independent.
■ Papers recommended for Major Revision at MSOM continue at MSOM with the same review team.
■ Papers not recommended for Major Revision at MSOM may be submitted to MSOM as new submissions.
