Colleagues,
Every year, INFORMS members do work that reaches well beyond the pages of a journal: testimony before legislators, public-facing research translation, partnerships with agencies and nonprofits, media engagement that shapes how decision-makers think about hard problems. The Advocacy Governance Committee's Public Engagement Award exists to recognize exactly that kind of contribution, and it is one of the more meaningful honors our community can bestow, precisely because it looks outward.
This award celebrates INFORMS members who have connected academia, industry and public action, turning research and subject matter expertise into influence, advocacy and tangible societal change. If your work, or that of a colleague, has shaped public discourse, informed policy or engaged communities through media outreach, policymaker engagement, public education or similar advocacy, this is the recognition built for it. The committee is looking for evidence of content created, the real-world decision opportunity it addressed and the measurable result, so start thinking now about the letters, testimony, articles or other materials that document that impact.
The Advocacy Governance Committee exists to strengthen the bridge between our discipline and the public and policy spheres it can serve. This award is one of the clearest ways we have to spotlight that mission and to encourage more of our members toward this kind of engagement.
Nominations and self-nominations are both welcome and encouraged. Please do not hesitate to put your own name forward if this describes your work.
Nominations close August 15. That is less than a month away, so if you are considering applying, now is the time to begin assembling your materials.
