POSITION DESCRIPTION: The School of Business and Society at the University of Redlands welcomes applications for a visiting faculty position in Business Analytics at open rank. The position is for one year (July 1, 2022 - June 30, 2023) and may be renewable.

The University of Redlands (www.redlands.edu) is recognized as a premiere regional liberal education institution, situated on a picturesque campus in the city of Redlands, within one hour of Los Angeles, Palm Springs, Joshua Tree, and Big Bear Lake. The School of Business and Society offers innovative undergraduate and graduate degree programs at several locations throughout Southern California.

The School offers an MS in Business Analytics along with a variety of coursework in business analytics, data-driven decision-making, management science/operations research, and operations management at the graduate and undergraduate level. The Redlands MSBA coursework takes an expansive view of analytics and emphasizes the intersection of analytics with both business and society. The program includes coursework in data science, data visualization and storytelling, data ethics, data mining, and location analytics. Courses are offered in various modalities, with online and hybrid taking precedence due to the pandemic. Analytics core courses are also taught in the School's Master in Organizational Leadership and B.S. in Business programs. The School's MBA has a one-of-its-kind concentration in Location Analytics. The School has a strong connection with Esri Inc., the worldwide market leader in location analytics and GIS solutions, which is headquartered in Redlands, CA.

We are seeking candidates who demonstrate excellence in teaching in all areas of analytics, particularly data science, data mining, and predictive analytics. Candidates with strong programming skills in Python and R and with experience in teaching programming as part of analytics coursework are encouraged to apply. Candidates with experience in creatively incorporating industry needs, in areas such as cloud computing, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and deep learning will be given preference. It is important that candidates demonstrate knowledge of ethical, legal, and societal implications of data and business analytics.

Courses in the School are 4-units each and are offered in eight-week long academic term. The selected candidate will be expected to teach up to 24 units in the 2022-23 year. Preference will be given to applicants with prior teaching experience in various modalities, including online. Consideration will also be given to candidates with interest in scholarly research and/or industry implementations of business analytics. Business experience is preferred, but not required. Depending on background and interest, the selected candidate may participate in the School's Spatial Business Initiative (www.redlands.edu/SBI), a unique partnership with Esri. In addition to teaching and scholarly activities, the selected faculty will also participate in service, particularly interacting with Southern California's business community and contributing to the development of specialized analytics certificates and analytics projects that complement and support the MSBA program.

The University of Redlands is a designated Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI). Students in the university's School of Business and Society span the greater southern California region comprised of Los Angeles, San Diego, Riverside, Orange, and San Bernardino counties. Students usually have a diversity of professional and life experiences and often include veterans. The School will soon begin offering a STEM Scholarship for Underrepresented Minorities, partially supported by Esri sponsorship. We are interested in candidates who share our values and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusiveness. In this context, a diversity statement is required as part of the application documenting any academic and/or professional experience with teaching, advising, mentoring a diverse body of students, as well as providing any consulting to diverse business, government, and non-profit organizations.

Applicants must also describe in their cover letter how their teaching and/or scholarship will advance analytically-educated critical thinkers and problem-solvers.

POSITION CRITERIA: Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Business Analytics, Management Science, Operations Research, Operations Management, Industrial Engineering, or a related field. ABD candidates will be considered but are expected to have a completed Ph.D. before the anticipated start date of July 1, 2022. Hires beyond the Visiting Assistant Professor level must be justified through significant and sustained teaching. All applicants should have a record of teaching achievement in their functional area and vibrant interest in cross-functional teaching, adult learners, and business education within the context of traditional liberal arts and science disciplines. The School operates without formal departments but has area groups. The selected candidate will be part of the Analytics, GIS, and IT Area Group and must be able to competently interact with a diverse population of students, staff, and faculty.
