  • 1.  Remembering Shabbir Ahmed

    INFORMS is saddened to share the passing of Shabbir Ahmed, INFORMS Fellow and long-time member, as well the Anderson-Interface Chair and Professor of the H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology, which he joined in 2000.

    Ahmed's research interests included the areas of stochastic and discrete optimization, developing new theory, algorithms to address problems in application areas that include logistics, and supply chain, chemical engineering, and power system design and operations.

    In addition to his work with Georgia Tech, Ahmed was very involved in INFORMS, serving on the editorial board of the journal Operations Research and the INFORMS Journal on Optimization. He was also the recipient of the Farkas Prize from the INFORMS Optimization Society, the INFORMS Computing Society Prize, and the INFORMS Dantzig Dissertation award.
