The Joint Global Change Research Institute (JGCRI) in College Park, Maryland, is seeking several postdoctoral research associates (see required qualifications below) to participate in research, modeling, and analysis at the intersection of energy systems, water system, land systems, the environment, technology, economics, and policy. Particular areas of interest include: 1) contributing to the development of the hydrology and related modules in the Global Change Assessment Model (GCAM); 2) Contributing to the development of the subnational energy, emissions, and other modules in GCAM; 3) devising methods for reconciling and analyzing various large data products, including land data in a variety of formats; 4) conducting integrated energy-water- land-climate modeling experiments at sub-national, regional, and global scales. These will be full-time appointments (each for up to three years) with benefits, subject to satisfactory progress.

JGCRI conducts multi-disciplinary research to advance fundamental understanding of human and Earth systems and provide decision-relevant information for management of emerging global risks and opportunities. The candidates will work in a multi-disciplinary research team and will be expected to contribute to the development and use of JGCRI's suite of integrated analysis and modeling capabilities, including the Global Change Assessment Modeling (GCAM) framework.

JGCRI researchers publish their findings in leading scientific journals and work with US Federal agencies, state governments, industry, foundations, and universities. JGCRI researchers are leaders in the international and national climate and global change research communities through prominent roles in science-based integrated assessments of energy and agricultural systems and water resources. The work environment at JGCRI is highly collaborative and interdisciplinary, focused on solutions to the world's most pressing challenges associated with energy, water and environment. Located in College Park, Maryland, JGCRI is a partnership between the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory of the US Department of Energy and the University of Maryland at College Park.

    Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must have received a PhD within the past five years (60 months) or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university.

    Preferred Qualifications

The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in environment/atmosphere, hydrology, climate, economics sciences, engineering, operations research, or related fields. GPA of 3.5 is preferred. Background in integrated assessment modeling, global hydrologic and climate modeling, energy economic modeling, air pollutant emissions, or related quantitative research fields is highly desirable. Some programming experience and training is required. Proficient experience in C++, C, Python and geospatial analyses is highly desirable. Experience in C++, C, and data processing languages/environments such as R is advantageous. Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment are necessary. Experience with publishing in peer-reviewed journals is preferred.

Please attach a cover letter, describing your education, research experience and training as relates to duties of this, to resume and submit as a SINGLE PDF file in response to this announcement. Contact information can be found here
