By using your communication skills, you should encourage your team members to send you updates whenever they finish a task, no matter how small it is. A good project manager knows how to identify risks and prevent them from negatively affecting their assignments. By improving your risk management skills, you won’t have to worry about unpleasant surprises ruining your work.


Negotiation


Project managers negotiate with different people almost every single day, whether it’s with clients, third party suppliers, or senior management. While people in sales are able to walk away from a deal when they’re not satisfied with it, negotiating as a project manager means being able to find a middle ground with everyone you talk to. Therefore, you will need to learn how to compromise and ensure everyone is satisfied with the terms of your agreement.


Improving Your Knowledge


Now that you know exactly what skills you need to be a good project manager, it’s time you start working on improving them. There are a number of ways to do this. A good place to start would be researching which books can help boost your knowledge in each of these areas. Another thing you can do is enroll in a Project Management Professional (PMP) course. The purpose of a PMP training course is to sharpen all of the skills necessary for a project manager.


On top of that, once you complete the course, it will be easier for you to take the Project Management Professional exam and earn this certification. With this certification, your salary will increase and you’ll start getting better job opportunities as well.
