WORMS Book and Podcast Club

WORMS is excited to announce a new Book and Podcast Club! We will read and discuss ideas from books/podcasts on subjects pertinent to the WORMS community, such as navigating the workplace, achieving work-life balance, being better colleagues. And hopefully, we will learn something new about ourselves.

The Club is open to all INFORMS members, though we strongly urge you to join WORMS to fully take advantage of this wonderful community. New books will be chosen quarterly, and communications/discussions will primarily happen asynchronously over Slack. See the FAQs below for more details. If you have any more questions, just reach out!

Past Discussions:

September 2022:

Episode: Computer says no – is AI making healthcare worse for women? (Episode 3)
Discussion over Zoom on Monday, September 26, 2022.

April to July, 2022:
Book: How Women Rise by Sally Helgesen and Marshall Goldsmith

FAQs

1. What is the WORMS' Book Club?

This book club was created to provide a space for members in WORMS, and INFORMS in general, a space to openly share and discuss the opportunities and challenges, and how we can support one another and particularly women in OR/MS. We will read books that are (including but not limited to) navigating the workplace, negotiation, and developing skills and perspectives that are centered around building a fulfilling career and personal life.

2. Who can join the book club?

All INFORMS members are welcome to join, though we strongly encourage you to be a member of WORMS as well. Note that WORMS is open to individuals of all gender identities.

3. Will the book club require a lot of time?

This book club is created to support you! Therefore, we will not require members to complete specific tasks at specific times. The book club is 100% asynchronous. However, we do suggest a "schedule" to move forward and to have a focus on certain topics/books at a time. Our schedule also proposes reading materials in very digestible size, so there is no need to worry!

4. How do we communicate?

After signing up (link above), you will receive an invitation to join our Slack channel. This will be our main communication channel with members of the club.
