We recently had the opportunity to visit Awestruck Ciders as part of a joint facility tour of the INFORMS and IEOM Student Chapters at Binghamton University, and it was truly an insightful experience!

Awestruck is a fast-growing company known for its innovative approach to crafting premium hard cider, combining creativity, data-driven decision-making, and efficient production systems. During our visit, we had the chance to learn about their operations, supply chain, and how analytical thinking plays a role in scaling and optimizing their business.

Experiences like this highlight how concepts from operations research, analytics, and systems engineering are applied in real-world settings, bridging the gap between what we learn in the classroom and industry practice.

A big thank you to the Awestruck team for hosting us and sharing their insights!

At the same time, we are excited to continue building the INFORMS Student Chapter at Binghamton University. Our goal is to create more opportunities like this, connecting students with industry, fostering professional development, and building a strong community around data, optimization, and decision-making.

If you’re interested in analytics, operations research, supply chain, or simply want to explore how data drives real-world impact, we’d love to have you join us!

Today, we had SSIE alumnus George Lourentzatos, Senior Director of Systems Improvement at Mount Sinai International, for an engaging and insightful speaker event.

George shared his professional journey and experiences working to expand and improve global healthcare systems through operational excellence and systems improvement initiatives. Students gained valuable perspectives on international healthcare operations, leadership, process improvement, and the real-world impact of industrial and systems engineering in healthcare.

The interactive discussion provided attendees with a deeper understanding of how systems thinking and operational strategies can drive meaningful change in healthcare organizations worldwide.

Thank you to George Lourentzatos for taking the time to speak with our students and share his expertise and experiences. We also thank everyone who attended and contributed to the discussion!
