The W. Frank Barton School of Business at Wichita State University (WSU) invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in Business Analytics. The start date is August 7th, 2023. Potential candidates will mainly teach graduate classes for a new Master of Science in Business Analytics, including data mining, machine learning, deep learning, artificial intelligence, optimization, and other advanced Analytics topics using Python in a business context. Candidates should be willing to teach using various instructional modalities (face to face, online, blended) and engage with the local industry to provide applied learning opportunities for the students. Candidates will be expected to teach a 2/2 load. Candidates should also demonstrate an active and ongoing research agenda that leads to peer reviewed journal publications and conference presentations. Additionally, candidates should apply and obtain funded research. Some service activities at the university, professional, and local community levels are expected from every faculty member.

The Barton School of Business works closely with the business community, which provides research opportunities for faculty and keeps our curriculum relevant. The business school has just moved into a new $60M state-of-the-art building, Woolsey Hall, this Fall. The candidate will be a faculty member in the department of Finance, Real Estate, and Decision Sciences (FREDS). This offers interdisciplinary research opportunities with colleagues and gives students the skills they need to bridge the gaps between different functional business areas. For more information on the department, please check our website http://www.wichita.edu/FREDS

Wichita State University recently launched a new "Innovation Campus". This brought several major global companies (e.g., Airbus, NetApp, Spirit, Deloitte) to campus and they made WSU their home. Woolsey Hall, the new building, is located on the Innovation Campus, making these companies easy to access for both faculty and students for research and applied learning opportunities.

Wichita, KS is known as "The Air Capital of the World" given the substantial number of aircraft manufacturing companies that call Wichita home. Moreover, Wichita has an undeniable entrepreneurial spirit; many companies have started in Wichita (e.g., Pizza Hut, Koch Industries) and the development of new business here continues to grow. Wichita is a great mid-sized town, with a low cost-of-living (the lowest cost of a studio apartment in the entire country according to the New York Times).

    Requirements

Qualified candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Business Analytics or a closely related area from an AACSB accredited College of Business. Candidates at an advanced stage of their doctoral studies (ABD) will be considered if they demonstrate capability of completing their degree requirements before the effective date of appointment. Candidates must also demonstrate evidence of:

    • Teaching effectiveness in different Business Analytics classes
    • Research that results in peer reviewed journal publications and conference presentations
    • Excellent oral and written communications skills

Preference will be given to candidates who have a good record of teaching, with a focus on applied learning, and an already demonstrated record in research effectiveness.

Qualified candidates should submit their full application package on the People Admin site of the university at http://jobs.wichita.edu

The position will be open until filled, but full consideration will be given to applications submitted by December 5th, 2023.
