    Dr. Adel Guitouni is seeking a research assistant (RA) or post-doctoral fellow (PDF) interested in joining our team to investigate sustainable and resilient supply chain designs to support Canada's response to major events in the North (i.e., the Arctic, Northwest Territories, Nunavut and Yukon).

    This project utilizes modelling, simulation, and optimization techniques to improve the sustainability and resilience of the response to major events in the North. Climate change and technological advancements have made the Arctic more accessible, increasing the need for safety and security related to search and rescue and natural or man-made disasters.

    The research project explores different supply chain architectures and various land, sea, and air modes of transportation in response to significant mobility challenges caused by major events such as natural disasters and humanitarian operations. Location decisions will also be necessary to ensure remote sites are serviced, even in critical circumstances.

    We are developing supply chain strategies and using mathematical, multi-agent systems, and machine learning models to evaluate these strategies from sustainability and responsible decision-making perspectives.

    Job description

    The successful candidate should be familiar with sustainability, supply chain design, and mixture of data analytic, mathematical programming and modelling & simulation (M&S) approaches. The candidate will join a vibrant and active research team to advance sustainable and intelligent supply chain management. The candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with other highly qualified personnel within the research team, faculty and researchers from different organizations.

    The work includes literature review, problem formulation, theory development, modelling (mathematical, machine learning techniques, multi-agent, M&S, etc.) and coding in Python, MATLAB, and NetLogo. The RA/PDF is expected to write technical reports and make presentations about their work. They are also expected to coauthor academic publications that result from their contribution.

    The employment conditions are as follows:

    3. Experience with WestGrid/Compute Canada or similar Advanced Research Computing is an asset;
    4. Knowledge of NetLogo is an asset;
    5. Strong analytical and quantitative skills (knowledge of mathematics, statistics, data analytics, multiple objective optimization, M&S and/or meta-heuristics is an asset);
    6. Interest in sustainability and complex system of systems modelling; and
    7. Excellent academic communication and publication skills.

    Application:

    1. A cover letter stating your motivation for the position;
    2. A resume highlighting your experience;
    3. Proof of academic achievements (published papers, awards, transcripts, etc.);
