    Dear colleagues,

    Happy new year!

We are delighted to extend an invitation and announce a call for papers to the Durham Early Career Scholars Professional Development Workshop: Operations and Analytics, hosted by Durham University Business School on June 25–26, 2025. This operations and analytics themed workshop is primarily aimed at early career scholars (e.g., assistant professors, postdocs and PhD students), with a specific focus on research and career development. Set in the historic and world heritage city Durham in Northern England, this event promises a stimulating environment for development and networking with peers and experts in the field.

The workshop will consist of three parallel tracks, each led by distinguished editors from top journals, who will act as discussants and provide individualized feedback on the papers presented.

    The three tracks are:

Supply Chain Management track: Led by Jeannette Song (Duke University)

Optimization track: Led by Chung-Piaw Teo (National University of Singapore)

Service Operations track: Led by Ming Hu (University of Toronto)

To round off the workshop, we will have two separate panel discussions entitled 'Anything you want to know before tenure' and 'Ask the editors'. There will be opportunities to pose questions on key topics relevant to early career scholars, including grant application strategies, working with PhD students, building industry and professional networks and navigating academic service responsibilities. The chairs of the tracks will also be up for questions tapping on their experience and opinions on the future of our field.

    Call For Papers

Submissions to this workshop are now open. Decisions are based on full paper submissions. We are seeking high-quality papers that broadly fall within one of the three themes of Supply Chain Management, Optimization, or Service Operations. We welcome submissions across methodological areas. Each participant can present only one paper during the event and the presenter must be an early career researcher, though there can be non-early career researcher co-authors on the paper. A total of 6 papers will be accepted for each theme. Early career non-presenters are also welcomed to sign up; we would be able to issue letters of invitation in support of visa applications.

    Important dates

Paper submission deadline: Jan 31, 2025

Notification of paper acceptance: Mid-April, 2025

Late registration & payment deadline (presenting authors): May 31, 2025

Please visit our website for more details on the program: https://durhamworkshop.webspace.durham.ac.uk/. Feel free to reach out with any questions to our organizing committee at durhamworkshop@durham.ac.uk. We look forward to seeing you soon in Durham!
