    INFORMS is deeply saddened to share the passing of longtime member Dionne Aleman. Aleman was a professor in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at the University of Toronto, where she was internationally recognized for her research in operations research applications to healthcare, emergency response, and pandemic planning. 

     

    Aleman will be remembered for her groundbreaking work at the intersection of operations research and public health, particularly in developing models to improve efficiency and outcomes in hospital systems and disaster management. Within INFORMS, she was an active and valued member who extensively contributed through leadership, mentorship, and scholarship. A Senior Member of INFORMS, Aleman served as co-chair of the INFORMS Healthcare Conference 2023 and was a recipient of both the Volunteer Service Award and Moving Spirit Award. She inspired countless students and colleagues through her dedication to advancing the field of operations research. 

     

    Her loss will be deeply felt throughout the INFORMS community and beyond.
