    The Department of Business Administration at the University of Zurich (Switzerland) is looking for

    Postdoctoral Research Fellows (Research Associates, 80% employed)

    and

    PhD Students (Research Assistants, 60% employed)

    starting September 1st 2022 or by arrangement.

     

    Postdocs and PhD students will either be employed at the newly founded Chair of Sustainable Operations Management or at the Chair of Mathematics for Business and Economics.

    The Chair of Sustainable Operations Management focuses on incorporating sustainability in operational decision making, by developing methodology and theory to improve sustainability of businesses while also addressing other key aspects such as profit, service, quality, and resilience. The application areas include Circular Economy, Supply Chain Collaboration for Sustainability, and Technology Transition for Sustainability.

    The Chair of Mathematics for Business and Economics focuses on the optimization of stochastic dynamic systems, in particular via Markov decision processes using approximate dynamic programming. Applications can be from any area of operations management, but our main interests are revenue management and sports..

    Responsibilities

    • Developing, managing, and publishing research projects
    • (Assisting in) teaching activities
    • Supervision of Bachelor or Master theses

     

    Qualifications

    • Candidates should have a strong background in Operations Research, Operations Management, Industrial Engineering, (Applied) Mathematics, or a related quantitative field.
    • The PhD student candidates should have or be close to completing a master's degree and the postdoc candidates should have or be close to completing a PhD degree in one of the fields stated above.
    • Solid knowledge of optimization techniques and/or stochastic processes
    • Good programming knowledge and skills
    • Strong motivation for scientific research and teaching
    • Good organizational and communication skills
    • Reliable team players
    • Advanced English language skills
