The Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia invites applications to its Ph.D. program in Decision Sciences and Data Analytics (DADS) for the 2025 – 2026 academic year. Established in 2023, this program seeks to prepare thought leaders who are poised for tenure-track positions at top universities worldwide, and will excel in high-quality scholarly work through groundbreaking research and transformative teaching.
Admitted Ph.D. students will have the opportunity to collaborate closely with, and be mentored by Darden's distinguished faculty, whose pioneering research addresses challenges in the frontiers of decision-making, management science, and analytics. The program offers rigorous academic training in quantitative methodologies, fostering expertise across a wide range of disciplines, including operations research, data science, machine learning, forecasting, and behavioral decision-making. Motivated applicants with strong background in mathematics, computer science, engineering, economics, and statistics are particularly encouraged to apply.
Students will benefit from a comprehensive support package, including full tuition coverage, a competitive stipend, and access to the resources of a leading global business school. The Darden Ph.D. program provides an intellectually stimulating and collaborative environment that encourages innovation, critical thinking, and interdisciplinary exploration. In this program, Darden students will be required to take a few core courses but also have the freedom to choose from the many Ph.D. courses that the UVA campus offers, and are encouraged to follow their interests and expand their knowledge. Darden's Ph.D. program in DADAS is intentionally selective, welcoming only a small cohort of high-achieving students with strong quantitative skills. This "smaller by design" approach ensures personalized mentorship and collaboration with faculty on cutting-edge research in business and management, fostering lifelong academic relationships and significant contributions to the field.
In addition to close collaboration with faculty, the Darden Ph.D. community is supported by Darden's Office of Research Services and five Centers of Excellence, including the Batten Institute, The Institute for Business in Society, the Olsson Center for Applied Ethics, the Collaboratory for Applied Data Science and the Richard A. Mayo Center for Asset Management. The Ph.D. program will also benefit from leveraging the newly founded LaCross AI Institute. Learn more about the program.
