    The Center for Healthcare Operations Improvement and Research (CHOIR) at the University of Twente announces the 22nd talk in the ORAHS International Seminar Series.

     

    The ORAHS International Seminars are planned monthly via MS-Teams in the late afternoon (Europe), morning (US), or evening (Asia/Pacific).

    Our next speaker is Peter T. Vanberkel. He is a Professor of Industrial Engineering and the Associate Dean of Research in the Faculty of Engineering at Dalhousie University.  His research involves improving healthcare operations using stochastic operational research and machine learning.  This research has involved local partners such as Nova Scotia Health, IWK Health, and Emergency Medical Care Inc, and national and international collaborations such as the British Columbia Cancer Agency, and Netherlands Cancer Institute – Antoni van Leeuwenhoek Hospital.

    Dr. Vanberkel's research is funded by Mitacs, NSERC, CIHR, and others. He is the guest editor of Developing flexible health services systems and alternative care pathways in a post-pandemic World, a special issue of the journal Information Systems and Operational Research. On 29 October 2024, at 16:00 (CEST), he will talk about "Using Machine Learning to Develop Guidelines for Identifying Patients Who May Leave an Emergency Department Without Being Seen."
