The School of Mathematics at the University of Edinburgh wishes to appoint a Lecturer in Operational Research (first permanent position covering research, teaching and service responsibilities). Applicants with significant experience and a suitably strong record of achievement may be appointed to a Readership.

The Optimization and Operational Research Group in the School is an international leader in the mathematical and computing aspects of optimization and operational research as well as contemporary industrial applications of optimization. We have world-leading expertise in the solution of large sparse linear and quadratic problems by two of the core technologies in optimization - the simplex method and interior point methods. We also have a strong and growing presence in the mathematics of energy systems. Further interests include nonlinear and global optimization, discrete optimization, decomposition methods, parallel computing, stochastic optimization, simulation and stochastic areas of operational research.

We are looking for ambitious researchers to enhance or complement these strengths, who are self-starting, and have a keen interest in operational research as part of the scientific process of figuring out how the modern world works. We are seeking candidates with a track record of high-quality research in areas relating to modern applications of Operational Research. We are particularly interested in applicants with the ability to contribute to the research and teaching in energy applications of OR, but strong potential in other areas such as healthcare, transportation, risk, public and service sectors, or data science will be given serious consideration. Candidates are expected to have demonstrated ability to engage with industry and/or multidisciplinary partners.

Applications close on 31st October 2022 at 5pm GMT: https://elxw.fa.em3.oraclecloud.com/hcmUI/CandidateExperience/en/sites/CX_1001/job/5405

Please ensure that your online application includes an up-to-date CV, research statement and teaching statement.  In addition please send three references to references@maths.ed.ac.uk by the closing date quoting Job 5405.

Informal enquiries may be made to Professor Miguel Anjos via Miguel.F.Anjos@ed.ac.uk

Professor Anjos will attend the INFORMS Annual Meeting and will be available to discuss this opportunity.
