Remembering Leroy 'Lee' Schwarz, 1941-2023
INFORMS is saddened to share the passing of a longtime member, INFORMS Fellow, and significant contributor to the OR/MS community, Leroy B. Schwarz. A professor with the Krannert School of Management at Purdue University for much of his career, Professor Schwarz's teaching and research interests were in healthcare supply chain management, manufacturing planning and control systems, and in strategic sourcing and procurement.
Among his many professional accolades, he served as the founding editor-in-chief of the INFORMS journal Manufacturing & Service Operations Management (M&SOM) and was named a finalist in the M&SOM Best Paper Award in 2010. In 2005, he was inducted as an INFORMS Fellow. INFORMS also honored Professor Schwarz with a service award in 2002, and he was recognized with a Distinguished Service Award from the INFORMS Manufacturing and Service Operations Management Society in 2001.
