    Hi,

How do I get in touch with INFORMS members in Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina area to see if an appetite exists?

Clarifying my question further, Is it possible for me to send a message through INFORMS to all members located in the Raleigh-Durham area to see if an appetite for a local chapter exists? I will be happy to follow the procedures that are outlined by INFORMS, I just need a way to  communicate at least once to the local INFORMs members.

Hi Daud, thank you for this question! I'll mention you to my colleague, our Chapter Relations Coordinator, and we'll be happy to work with you if you find there's interest and you'd like to move forward with a chapter.

There's a convenient way to find all the members in your area, but I don't think there's a simple way to message them all together through INFORMS Connect. Log in and go to your profile, then click on My Connections > Networks. On your networks page, you'll see 'City - Raleigh, NC' and you can click on a link to open a list of the members in our directory who are located in that city. There's a state network too, if you'd like to cast a wider net.

I'm going to check with my counterparts at other associations that use this platform and see if there is a way to do group messaging through networks that I'm just not seeing. I'll get back to you with more info!

    Hi Daud,

I'm the INFORMS VP, Chapters & Fora, and can help you get a chapter together. To start a new chapter, you'll first need at least 25 INFORMS members. Please see https://www.informs.org/Communities/Subdivision-Leadership-Resource-Center/Starting-or-Revitalizing-a-Chapter and follow Tracy's tips for finding other members to get started. You can also post here on Open Forum, on Industry Open Forum, etc. I can work on my end, too, to help find more interested members.

We do have a chapter for Southeastern US that technically covers your area: https://connect.informs.org/southeastern/home Their biggest (and possibly only) activity is an annual conference. They may be able to help you find more potential members. You might be able to do chapter activities through them instead of starting a new one. But their existence would not prevent you from starting a new chapter specific to the Raleigh-Durham area.

    V/r,

    Kathryn

    Kathryn,

    Thanks for your message.

I have already sent out an email to North Carolina INFORMS members.  Depending upon the feedback I will see If it makes sense to join the SE Chapter or start a new one.

I do not have information about the process and paperwork to get a chapter started.  In terms of attracting members, I would contact the IE department at NCSU which has a very active faculty and student body
