To Summarize , the QSR Section of INFORMS organized a special discussion session on unconscious bias, aiming to raise awareness and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within their community. The event involved watching a video on unconscious bias, followed by breakout discussions on its impact on work and organizations.
Matching my background and transition to MSBA at UC Davis, I resonated with the need to address unconscious bias in professional settings. The examples shared by attendees matched situations I've encountered in diverse workplaces, emphasizing the importance of recognizing and removing biases.
However, my experience diverges in that my career shift was more industry-focused, and the biases I faced might differ from those discussed in an academic context. Nevertheless, the universality of unconscious bias challenges is evident, calling for collective efforts in all professional spheres.
