    The Material Handling Capstone Design Competition 2024-2025 is open.

    Sponsored by MHI and College Industry Council on Material Handling Education (CICMHE), the purpose of the competition is to recognize outstanding material handling applications and encourage student interest in the material handling industry. Thanks to generous MHI sponsorship, monetary prizes (to be shared among the students on the winning teams) of $2000, $1000, and $500 will be awarded to first, second, and third place teams, respectively.  Outstanding submissions will also be recognized at MHI events.

    Eligibility criteria:

            Project work in Material Handling or Supply Chain.

            Design project work completed by undergraduate or master's level enrolled students within the 2023-2024 academic year.

            The project demonstrates design, or application, of material handling principles.

            Any project completed for course credit, regardless of the format of the course/project, e.g., length, multidisciplinary, size of team, etc.

    Submission Details:

            Submissions must come from a department faculty member, capstone coordinators, or mentors of the project.

            Up to two submissions accepted from each department.

            On the submission page, you'll be asked for the following:

    1.       Team Information:  Student team members' names and contact information (personal email preferred since monetary prizes will be distributed electronically), faculty nominator name and contact information

    2.       Project sponsor

    3.       Project Title

    4.       Statement about what information submitted can be publicly. For example, many programs obtain permission from industry sponsors to make the title, abstract, and posters publicly available

    5.       Project Information

              Problem or Opportunity Statement

              Objectives

              Deliverables and Outcomes

              Impact and Project Success Measures

    6.       Uploads:

              Supporting documentation and evidence of work. Include at least two deliverables required for the students' capstone course (e.g. poster, presentation, report, video)

              Group photo (preferred) or individual photos of each student. Winning teams will have their photos posted publicly on the website

    The evaluation committee of MHI and CICMHE members, from both industry and academia, will judge the submissions based on the following criteria:

    • Project complexity and outcome success
    • Creativity in addressing the problem
    • Potential Impact/Contribution to the Material Handling Industry
    • Quality of the Deliverables
    • Effective Communication of the Problem, Approach, Design, and Results
