Operations researchers and child welfare professionals are invited to Cornell University on Thursday, October 3, 2024, to participate in the 2nd Child Welfare Operations Symposium. Following up on a successful inaugural symposium in 2023 (click here for a YouTube recap), this year's discussions will feature practitioners sharing challenges and opportunities for research collaborations. Four amazing practitioners will lead deep dives into various parts of the child welfare system, explaining data resources and identifying research topics:
-
Carla Aaron, Deputy Commissioner, Tennessee Dept. of Children's Services
-
Thea Ramirez, Founder and CEO, Adoption-Share
-
Greg Flett, Senior Program Manager, National Children's Advocacy Center
-
Sarah Sernaker, Statistician, National Data Archive on Child Abuse and Neglect
The year's event will also include a poster session for any academic attendees who have child welfare or related research projects that they wish to share.
The symposium will take place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on October 3 at Statler Hall on Cornell's Ithaca campus. Attendees are also invited to a casual networking reception on the evening of Wednesday, October 2. While meals will be provided, attendees should provide their own travel and lodging arrangements (click here for a limited event room block at the Canopy by Hilton Ithaca Downtown). There is no additional cost for the conference, but space is limited by the venue size. To register, sign up on the event website: https://cvent.me/0Qe9N1
Please feel free to contact the conference chair, Vince Slaugh, at vslaugh@cornell.edu if you have any questions. There is much potential for interesting and impactful work in this area, and we are excited to explore this with you.
