    About Rabat and Travel

§  Rabat is Morocco's capital and one of its four imperial cities. It is located on the Atlantic coast at the mouth of the Wadi Bou Regreg, opposite the city of Salé. The history of Rabat is closely connected to that of Salé, the site of which was first occupied by the Roman settlement of Sala (Shella). During the 10th century, Salé was established by the Zanātah Imazighen (Berbers), who were Sunni Muslims, to house the nonconformist Barghawāṭah Imazighen.

§  Hassān Tower – Hassān Tower The half-completed Hassān Tower (minaret) looming above the pedestals of the unfinished mosque, Rabat, Morocco.

§  The old town, still surrounded by ramparts, lies near the coast. Within its fortifications are the medina (old Muslim town). To the north, on a cliff above the Bou Regreg, stands the 17th-century fortress of Casbah des Oudaïa, with a splendid 12th-century Almohad gateway, an Andalusian garden, and an adjoining madrasah (religious college) that houses a museum of Moroccan art. Southeast of the old town are a number of outstanding historical structures, including the Tower of Hassān and the foundations of its never-completed mosque, across from which is located the mausoleum of Muḥammad V.

§  Rabat is connected to Casablanca (57 miles [92 km] to the southwest) and Tangier (174 miles [280 km] to the northeast) by road and railway, and it has an international airport. When you visit Rabat, it's very convenient to also visit Fez and Marrakech as they are all major cities in Morocco, easily accessible by train.

§  Rabat–Salé Airport (RBA) – The airport is located about 8 kilometres (5 mi) east-northeast of Rabat and there are many direct flights from Europe including Paris, Brussels, Madrid, Barcelona, Lyon, Dusseldorf, Tunis, London, Rome, Geneva, and Istanbul.

§  Being in the top northeast of the African continents and only a few kilometers from Europe, made Morocco a very important destination for travelers that are attracted to its varied landscapes and unique culture. Traveling to Morocco by air becomes easy last few years, in addition to its important ports that are connected with Europe, and over 20 important airports.

§  Casablanca Airport – Mohamed V international airport (CMN): The largest Airport in Morocco with over 27 airlines and over 87 destinations. You can use train or taxi to travel to Rabat. It is about 57 miles from Rabat.

§  The Hassan II Mosque is a mosque in Casablanca, Morocco. It is the second-largest functioning mosque in Africa and the 14th-largest in the world. Hassan II mosque is the highlight of Casablanca day tours with hundreds of visitors every day.

§  Marrakech is the best city that offers short Desert tours in Morocco, as well as vacation packages to different attractive touristic sights, to explore Morocco in every way. It is about 200 miles from Rabat. Easy access by train from Rabat.
