    The School of Business Operations and Information Management (OPIM) Department at the University of Connecticut invites applications for a non-tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor In-Residence, with primary responsibilities including teaching and service, interests in outreach, and research at the University's Stamford campus in the areas of business analytics, information systems, and operations management to begin in Fall 2023.

    The successful candidate will be expected to share a deep commitment to effective instruction at the undergraduate and graduate levels, to the development of innovative courses, and to the mentoring of students in their professional development.  In addition, individuals will be expected to contribute to scholarship and outreach targeted at the professional community so as to maintain faculty qualifications under AACSB guidelines.  Successful candidates will also be expected to broaden participation among members of under-represented groups; demonstrate through their activities the richness of diversity in the learning experience; integrate multicultural experiences into instructional methods and research tools; contribute to the development of pedagogical techniques designed to meet the needs of diverse learning styles and intellectual interests.

    The Stamford campus is located in the Fairfield County of Connecticut, which ranks among the highest in the nation with regard to number of Fortune 500 companies per capita. To build upon UConn's existing growth and success at its regional Stamford campus, UConn began to envision a variety of potential expansions in Stamford around research and workforce development starting in 2016, collaborating with the state initiatives including Innovate Stamford and StamfordNext. The successful candidate is expected to contribute in an important role to the growth of the OPIM department in research, education, and outreach at the Stamford campus.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • Candidates must have earned Ph.D. or equivalent in Business Analytics, Information Systems, Operations Management, or related fields of interest to the department. Equivalent foreign degrees are acceptable. 
    • Candidates must have demonstrated excellence or strong potential in teaching relevant courses focusing on analytics and data science.
    • A deep commitment to promoting diversity through their academic and research programs.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills.

     

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Industry experience in business analytics and data science, information systems and technology, operations and supply chain management.
    • Expertise in big data analytics, machine learning, artificial intelligence.
    • Experience with IT Security, networking and/or databases (SQL).
    • Experience with data analytics including SAS, Hadoop, Tableau, R, Splunk or any other relevant tools.

    APPOINTMENT TERMS

    This is a full-time, nine-month, end-date non-tenure track position with the possibility of annual reappointment, contingent upon positive annual reviews and program funding, and may lead to a multi-year appointment.  The anticipated start date is August 23, 2023.  The successful candidate's primary academic appointment will be at the Stamford campus with the possibility of assignment at other regional campuses or in online instruction.  Salary and position level will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
