    Dear colleagues,

    We are pleased to announce the finalists of the 2021 INFORMS HAS Best Student Paper Competition. This year, we received 49 eligible entries, and we are grateful to our 32 judges for their time and dedication.

    The following is a list of the finalists (sorted alphabetically by student name):

    • "Nonprofit vs. For-Profit: Allocation of Beds and Access to Care in U.S. Nursing Homes," by Yangzi Jiang (Northwestern University). Advisor: Jan Van Mieghem

    • "Contextual Learning with Online Convex Optimization: Theory and Applications to Chronic Diseases," by Esmaeil Keyvanshokooh (University of Michigan). Advisor: Mark Van Oyen

    • "Structural Estimation of Intertemporal Externalities on ICU Admission Decisions," by Yiwen Shen (Columbia University). Advisors: Carri Chan and Fanyin Zheng

    • "An Inverse Optimization Approach to Measuring Clinical Pathway Concordance," by Nasrin Yousefi (University of Toronto). Advisor: Timothy Chan

    All the finalists have been invited to present their papers at the 2021 INFORMS Healthcare Conference (July 21-23, online), in a special HAS-sponsored session dedicated to the competition. The winner and runner-up will be announced at the HAS Business meeting during the conference.
