    Dear Friends and Colleagues,
     

    We are happy to invite you to participate in the 14th annual AIMMS-MOPTA Optimization Modeling Competition, which is organized by the organizers of the joint International Conference on Continuous Optimization (ICCOPT) and Modeling and Optimization: Theory and Applications (MOPTA) conference to be held at Lehigh University, Bethlehem, Pennsylvania (USA) on July 23-28, 2022. The first phase's submission deadline is May 15, 2022, 23:59 Eastern Time. Finalists are expected to attend and present their results at the ICCOPT/MOPTA Conference.

    The challenge:

    This year's competition focuses on an elective surgery planning problem in flexible operating rooms under random arrival of emergency surgeries and random elective and emergency surgery durations.

    Eligibility

    Information on eligibility, registration, submission, and competition format are posted on the competition webpageTeams of at most three students can participate and should list a faculty advisor. The team leader must be a graduate student, though the other team members can be advanced undergraduate students. Each team member must be registered as a full-time student at a recognized educational institution during the Spring term of the 2021-2022 Academic Year. Students with any background are eligible. Collaboration between students from different departments is strongly encouraged. We ask teams to register as soon as they start working on the problem.

    Prizes
    • Winning team: $1200 to the team, and a certificate for each team member.
    • Second place team: $600 to the team, and a certificate for each team member.
    • Third place team: $300 to the team, and a certificate for each team member.

    Also, the highest-ranked finalist that used AIMMS as the software platform to solve the case will be awarded an additional $1000 in prize money.
