    Position Description

    The Ingram School of Engineering invites applications for one highly motivated (postdoctoral) research associate position under the supervision of Dr. Zhijie (Sasha) Dong in the Industrial Engineering program. This appointee will focus on research in the area of emergency management and disaster response, by developing mathematical models and solution methods. The position is mainly supported by a research grant from the Department of Energy.  For more information about Dr. Dong and her research interest please visit https://dong.wp.txstate.edu/.

    The appointee will be responsible for 1) conducting research and taking leadership in writing proposals and research papers; 2) developing collaboration with other research teams, public agencies, and industry partners; 3) co-supervising student projects and basic administrative support.  The appointee will have the chance to be involved in the projects with NSF, Texas Department of Transportation, and Japan Science and Technology Agency.

    The initial appointment is for one year with the possibility of an extension for additional years. The expected start time for this position will be June 2022. Preferences will be given to candidates who are already in the United States. Exceptional researchers with a master's degree could also be considered.   

    Required Qualifications

    • Master in OR, Industrial Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or closely related fields.
    • Knowledge of mathematical modeling, optimization algorithms, and statistics
    • Familiar with programming and optimization software (e.g., CPLEX and Gurobi).
    • Good writing and presentation skills.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • D. in OR, Industrial Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or closely related fields.
    • Experience in writing proposals.
    • Strong programming skills, particularly C++ or Java.
    • Knowledge of stochastic programming and/or machine learning
