    Dear Colleagues:

    This is a call for papers for

    FLEXIBLE SERVICES AND MANUFACTURING

    Special Issue on Analytics and models for maritime logistics and systems

    Submission Deadline: December 31, 2017

    Today's globalized operations post a challenge for most companies to achieve distribution networks that are flexible enough to adapt to the dynamic and growing markets. In this environment, decision makers often find themselves overwhelmed with this complexity. At the same time, these globalized operations generate an enormous amount of data about the movement of cargo around the world. This new wealth of data offers an enormous opportunity to optimize the maritime and logistics transportation industry to prevail over the challenges that the global scale operations bring. However, to take advantage of these opportunities decision makers need the right analytical tools and models suitable to exploit the opportunities big data is offering.

    This special issue of the Flexible Services and Manufacturing (FSM) Journal aims to address challenges and explore the opportunities related to ocean transportation logistics from various perspectives. We are especially seeking papers introducing new concepts, defining new problems, and developing new methodologies and models to exploit the wealth of data generated by the maritime and logistics transportation industry. Authors of LOGMS 2017 (http://www.logms2017.org) are welcome to submit the extended version of the papers presented at the conference, provided that substantial new results are added. The special issue includes, but is not limited to, the following topics:

    * Analytics in maritime logistics and systems

    * Automation in container terminals

    * Carrier alliances and collaborative logistics

    * Data science and engineering, as well as IT-technologies in maritime logistics and systems

    * Design of maritime transportation networks

    * Empty container management . Environmental issues in maritime transportation

    * Freight rates and markets . Industrial applications in maritime transportation

    * Multimodal transportation systems . Onshore transportation of containers

    * Optimization modeling and simulation analysis of maritime logistics systems

    * Performance measures and efficiency analysis in maritime logistics systems

    * Port operations management . Real-time control of logistics activities in container terminals

    * Scheduling in maritime logistics and systems . Ship routing and fleet management

    * Shipping maintenance and warehouse services . Shipping revenue management

    * Stowage planning in maritime transportation

    * Terminal design and operation

    Submission Guideline

    Papers must clearly address research issues of logistics and maritime transportation chains. Please submit your paper online via http://www.editorialmanager.com/flex/ and use "Maritime Logistics and Systems" as article type. The target print publication date is Fall 2018.

    The submitted papers must not have been previously published or be currently under consideration for publication elsewhere. All papers will be reviewed according to the standards of the FSM journal. We will adopt a rapid and fair review process in order to meet the target publication date.
